St Mark’s School is a nurturing Anglican preschool and primary school located in central Wellington, opposite the iconic Basin Reserve cricket ground. As the central city’s only independent primary school for both boys and girls, we offer an exceptional education from preschool to Year 8. With around 250 students, we provide a close-knit environment where every child is known and valued. We integrate the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) with the New Zealand curriculum, promoting academic excellence and holistic development within our unique school character.

About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Principal for a ‘walking’ position, responsible for fostering clear planning, communication and educational excellence within their syndicate.

  • You will support curriculum development working alongside the Principal.
  • You will be a member of the school’s leadership team.
  • You will be responsible for managing the people and budgets in your syndicate, including coaching, mentoring and professional development for staff.
  • You will foster relationships between the school and the community through interactions with students and their whānau, other teachers, and staff at other schools.
  • You will be expected to spend up to one day a week teaching (0.2FTE)

About You
We are looking for a person with the drive and commitment to ensure the best quality education is delivered to students and with the following attributes:

  • A registered teacher with at least 10 years teaching experience, ideally with experience in the International Baccalaureate programme.
  • Experience at a senior level leading at a school, especially in leading others.
  • Understanding of school processes, such as timetabling.
  • Knowledge of Coaching or Professional Growth Cycle requirements
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Innovative and forward-thinking
  • Ability and flexibility to work cooperatively and effectively with other school leaders.
  • Great self-awareness.
