Launceston Church Grammar School is an Anglican co-educational day and boarding school in northern Tasmania. With a proud tradition of educational excellence and strong co-curricular opportunities, the School provides a dynamic and supportive environment where students are encouraged to pursue their passions and strive for personal growth.
As one of Australia’s oldest rowing schools, Launceston Grammar first launched on the Kanamaluka (River Tamar) in 1887 in partnership with the Tamar Rowing Club. Today, our rowing program continues to thrive with more than 100 student rowers, 20 coaches, and a dedicated Parent Support Group. Students compete across Singles, Doubles/Pairs, Quads/Fours and Eights, with a strong reputation in quad racing at the annual Australian Rowing Championships.
We are seeking enthusiastic, experienced and committed Rowing Coaches to join our program for the 2026/2027 rowing season.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Rowing, Rowing Coaches play an important role in developing the technical capability, fitness, confidence and wellbeing of student athletes across Years 7–12.
Coaches work collaboratively within a well-structured and supportive program, contributing to a positive team culture while delivering engaging and safe rowing experiences both on and off the water.
As part of this role, you will be required to:
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of students at all times.
- Deliver engaging and safe on-water and land-based training sessions.
- Support the development of students’ technical proficiency, fitness and confidence.
- Implement crew training programs that cater to varying experience and skill levels.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Rowing and broader coaching team.
- Attend scheduled training sessions, regattas and rowing camps.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families and the wider rowing community.
- Uphold and model the values and ethos of Launceston Grammar.
About You
We are seeking coaches who demonstrate:
- A passion for rowing and student development.
- Previous rowing and/or coaching experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive and productive relationships with students and colleagues.
- A collaborative and team-oriented approach.
- Reliability, adaptability and professionalism.
- A commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Level 1 Rowing Australia Coaching Qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Motorboat Licence (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (WWVP).
- National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
- Current First Aid and CPR qualifications.
- Availability to work flexible hours across the 2026/2027 rowing season, including early mornings, weekends, regattas and camps.
- An understanding of and commitment to the School’s Child Safety policies and practices.
