The College is seeking to appoint a permanent part -time (up to 0.4 FTE) Prep School Co-ordinator of Bands to commence Term 1, 2021 at our Stanmore Preparatory School (Wyvern House) and Lindfield Prep Campuses.

About the Position

The College is seeking to appoint a permanent part -time (up to 0.4 FTE) Prep School Co-ordinator of Bands to commence Term 1, 2021 at our Stanmore Preparatory School (Wyvern House) and Lindfield Prep Campuses. We are specifically looking for an outstanding primary band conductor.
  
Music in the Prep Schools is exceptionally strong with all students (K-6) involved in class music lessons and choral activities. At Wyvern all students in Year 2 and Year 3 learn to play a string, woodwind brass or percussion instrument in small groups. At the Lindfield Campus, all boys in Years 2 and 3 participate in a string program, and in Years 4 and 5 they participate in a woodwind, brass and percussion program.
  
There are a number of co-curricular ensembles at the Prep schools including choir, concert bands, string, percussion and jazz groups. Over 340 students receive individual tuition from visiting peripatetic music staff. 
The current music structure has a Head of Music (Wyvern K-6); Co-ordinator of Music (Lindfield K-6); a Senior School Director of Bands (Years 7-12); a Head of Strings (Years K-12); class music teachers at Wyvern Prep (K-6) with all teachers being involved with co-curricular groups along with specialists; and over 30 visiting peripatetic instrumental teachers.

  • be a dynamic and successful ensemble practitioner
  • have a sound understanding of the learning needs of boys
  • engage boys in a vibrant Prep School Music education program at all levels
  • utilise appropriate technologies to enhance the teaching program
  • have appropriate tertiary Music qualifications
  • work effectively as a member of an enthusiastic team
  • have knowledge of the Orff Schulwerk and Kodaly philosophies and/or be prepared to undertake training in these approaches
  • show a genuine appreciation and commitment to pastoral care
  • embrace the learning frameworks for each campus (Lindfield – Primary Years Program; Wyvern – Building Learning Power)
