First-time Principal - a unique fast-track opportunity

Ultimo · New South Wales
  • Unique opportunity for department head or deputy to fast-track to headship
  • Academically elite. STEM-focused. IB-only. Co-ed
  • Permanent position to start asap, January latest
  • Seeking the best.  Pay and conditions second to none.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced department head or deputy to fast-track to their first headship in an academically elite, high professional, progressive and ambitious senior high setting.

The UK’s 2019 ‘IB School of the Year’ opened our Sydney campus in January 2021, focusing solely on academically elite, highly motivated, STEM-focused Year 11 and 12 students (only) – co-ed – and who have already chosen to pursue their careers in STEM sectors, and on the global stage.

As we come to the end of our second year – expecting exceptional results from our first graduating cohort; and having the operations bedded down – our founding principal will be retiring at the end of the year. This gives rise to a unique opportunity for a new generation of leader, one that has: established beyond question their ability to lead and achieve success; the verve and vigour to grasp the nettle and drive our next phase of growth and development; the confidence commensurate with their capabilities, coupled with the self-awareness to realise that ever-greater challenges and opportunities still lie ahead.

Rest assured that you will have the full-throated support of our outgoing principal (who will be joining the board), our highly-experienced principal of our UK ‘mothership’ school, our Singapore academic director, and the whole global leadership executive.

More about Westbourne College Sydney … and Westbourne International…

Based in the heart of Sydney’s rapidly developing ‘Innovation and Technology Precinct’, just 8 minutes’ walk from Central, we use a ‘city office’ format and university facilities to deliver to our students a ground breaking ‘mixed secondary/tertiary’ experience without peer, providing an unmatchable, tangible context for their studies, university options and career planning. The curriculum enrichment opportunities provided by being immersed in such a professional, STEM-focused environment are unparalleled.

We are not a ‘school’ in a traditional sense. This is a professional/enterprise work environment. Incoming Year 11 students are treated as young professionals from Day 1. From our business attire dress code, to allocated workstations, to joint projects with their UK colleagues, to an annual Year 11 trip to our UK school, including INSEAD-led case studies and tours of the best British universities, our sole purpose is to best prepare our students to be leaders of the future, in STEM careers, on the global stage. Westbourne College Sydney students will graduate to the very best universities in Australia, the UK and around the world … and will then go on to run the show. Fully 90% of their UK colleagues go on to Russell Group universities, predominantly the G5.

Our global leadership team comprises the same people who have led our success in the UK, ranking at the very top of the UK league tables since 2015, as well as highly experienced Sydney and Asia-based professionals who have previously worked at MLC and for the IBO itself. This is an inspiring, driven, dynamic and truly world-class team. We are fiercely proud of our history … but we are unencumbered by it – we are at the very forefront of modern education (recently, as but one example, being a finalist in the TES ‘best use of technology’ awards)

Westbourne College Sydney is the second in our rapidly progressing plans to create the world’s first truly global network of academically elite colleges in collaboration with the world’s leading universities. We have secured a property and employed an Academic Director in Singapore for launch in 2023 … and we have advanced plans to open 1-2 colleges a year thereafter, establishing 6-continent coverage by 2025.

Pay and conditions are second to none, and the opportunities for ongoing – and rapid! – career advancement are limited only by your enthusiasm, drive and commitment.
