Head of Pre-School

We are looking for an energetic and experienced teacher to be the face of Wellingtons leading independent co-ed Preschool at Queen Margaret College. The successful candidate will embody the values of the College, must have an early childhood degree or diploma, would enjoy managing a team, and have a desire to be part of a progressive educational environment.

 

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • The education and care of children between 3-5 years of age in cooperation with six other preschool teachers.
  • The day-to-day running and management of the pre-school.
  • Ensuring compliance with Ministry of Education, Education Review Office, and other licensing authorities’ requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

  • To manage a cooperative team who actively, willingly and positively plan, implement and assess the pre-school curriculum, Te Whariki and the IB PYP.
  • To communicate and work cooperatively with all staff and parents.
  • To regularly update all management and self-review documentation including handbooks, operations manuals, rosters, programmes, policies and processes.

Representative Responsibilities:

  • To establish an orientation programme for new pupils coming into the Pre-School.
  • To liaise with parents and the preparatory teacher to ensure a smooth transition to school.
  • To provide a warm, nurturing and respectful environment.
  • To directly supervise the children in the programme at all times, ensuring that all activities offered at and away from the Pre-School are carried out in a safe, age-appropriate and organised manner.
  • To share with parents information about their child’s day.
  • To involve the parents in the planning of the pre-school programme.
  • To be familiar with and to follow the requirements laid out in the Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • To be familiar with and maintain the conditions of the QMC Pre-School Employment Contract.
  • To provide or arrange for first aid in cases of emergencies. Reportable incidents will be documented following College procedures and a report completed the same day.
  • To coordinate planning, implement and assess developmentally appropriate activities according to the interests and individual needs of the children in the pre-school. These activities should foster social, physical, emotional, cognitive and creative development.
  • To arrange and supervise all routines and interactions.
  • To develop rosters for regular cleaning routines as well as cleaning of toys, washing bedding and outdoor clothes left at the Pre-School.
  • To complete all administration duties.
  • To lead regular planning sessions, arrange agenda and newsletters and attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • To maintain confidentiality about children, their families, and the PreSchool.
  • To take responsibility for regular monitoring of a group of children to ensure the progress of each individual child and document accordingly.
  • Fulfil all professional requirements as requested by the Principal and the Head of Junior School
  • The Head PreSchool teacher shall also be committed to both personal and professional development.
  • The Head Pre-School teacher shall demonstrate loyalty to the school at all times and be prepared to contribute to the special character of Queen Margaret College.
