Outdoor Education Teacher

Sophia Mundi Steiner School is seeking an experienced Outdoor Educator to join the team in 2023. We are looking for someone with energy and enthusiasm along with excellent hard and soft skills and qualifications in Outdoor Education. We welcome applicants with vision for program development.

This is a full-time position and includes participation in other school activities, meetings and events.   

Our well-established Outdoor Education Program (Years 3 -12) has been designed to progressively build skills and experience on base camps in the primary years, progressing to more independent journey camps in the secondary school. All camps reflect the developmental stage and year level curriculum. 

Role Summary

To plan, organise and attend the Outdoor Education programme for students in Years 3-12, ensuring it supports the Steiner and IB curricula and facilitates a safe and rewarding relationship with the natural world.  This is a full-time position and includes participation in other school activities, meetings and events.

Key Duties

  • Plan each camp with the class teacher and faculty to ensure curriculum objectives are met
  • Carry out appropriate risk assessments
  • Organise accommodation, food, transport, permits etc
  • Preparing students for camps

 Required Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • VIT registration is preferred
  • Current Level 3 and Wilderness First Aid
  • Current driving and light rigid licence
  • High levels of energy and enthusiasm
  • Team player
  • Strong planning, leadership and organisational skills
  • Willingness to work within the Ethos of Sophia Mundi Steiner School
