English Teacher

Full-time Permanent Position Commencing Term 1, 2020

Pembroke School is a co-educational, non-denominational, day and boarding School from Early Learning Centre to Year 12. Pembroke School offers the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and is also an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the IB Diploma and the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

We are seeking a dynamic, creative and engaging teacher of English. The successful applicant would be working with a range of students from Years 7 – 12 across both the Middle and Senior School campuses. The applicant will have proven teaching experience, a passion for teaching English and will be easily approachable and able to relate well to students and parents. Some experience in teaching within IB Diploma courses would be an advantage.

The large, vibrant English Department comprises teachers who develop engaging, academically challenging environments for all students at all year levels, and who promote a love of learning, literature and language. Classes are of mixed ability in the Middle School (7 - 10) where a diverse range of texts is taught in accordance with the Australian Curriculum. Students with special needs are very well supported across all year levels and experience in adapting curriculum to meet diverse student learning needs would be invaluable. In the senior years (11 - 12) students select either a SACE or IB course and English subjects attract large enrolments.

Teachers work collaboratively in all phases of the planning, teaching and assessment cycle yet enjoy great flexibility and support. The department is very well-resourced to foster creative and critical thinking, and visiting writers, speakers, performers and live theatre visits, also form part of the curriculum to stimulate and enrich students’ learning experiences.
