The UK’s ‘IB School of the Year’ opening in Sydney

  • Chemistry. English. Mandarin. Spanish. Seeking the best
  • Academically elite. STEM focused. IBDP only. Co-ed 50:50
  • Progressive part-time/out-of-hours start asap; to Permanent from January Pay and conditions second to none.

The UK’s 2019 ‘IB School of the Year’ opens a Sydney campus in January 2021, focusing solely on academically elite, highly motivated, STEM-focused Year 11 and 12 students (only) – co-ed, ~50:50 – and who have already chosen to pursue their careers in STEM sectors, and on the global stage.

Based in the heart of the UTS/innovation and technology precinct, just 8 minutes’ walk from Central, we will utilise the TAFE and UTS facilities and campus to deliver to our students a ground breaking ‘mixed secondary/tertiary’ experience without peer. Students will have, through weekly contact, the opportunity to observe, interact with and understand the myriad paths that lay before them – undergrad, post-grad and beyond – which will provide an unmatchable, tangible context for their studies, university options and career planning. The curriculum enrichment opportunities provided by being immersed in such an environment and with a regular series of guest university lecturers are unparalleled.

We will not be a ‘school’ in the traditional sense. This is a professional/enterprise working environment. The incoming Year 11 cohort will be treated as young professionals from Day 1. From our business attire dress code, to individual, personal workstations, to joint projects with their UK colleagues, our sole goal is to prepare our students as leaders of the future, on the international stage, in STEM careers. A term at a sister Westbourne college will not quite be compulsory, but will be highly encouraged, as too will teacher exchanges. Westbourne Sydney students will graduate to the very best universities in Australia, the UK and around the world … and will then go on to run the show. Fully 90% of their UK colleagues go on to Russel Group universities; predominantly the G5.

We are seeking quite simply the best teachers in Sydney in the subjects below to join our highly experienced team.

  • Chemistry HL
  • Physics HL
  • English SL
  • Mandarin SL
  • Spanish SL

An ability to teach more than one of the above will be an advantage.

Pay and conditions will be second to none.

Our leadership and core teaching team comprises the same people that led our success in the UK, ranking at the very top of the UK league tables for 5 years, as well as highly experienced Australia/Asia-based professionals that have previously worked at MLC and for the IBO itself. This is an inspiring, driven, dynamic and truly world-class team. We are fiercely proud of our history … but we are unshackled by it, and we are at the very forefront of modern education.

Though not essential, experience teaching the IB Diploma is highly desirable and will confer significant advantage.

Westbourne College Sydney will be the second in our well-developed plans to create the world’s first truly global network of academically elite colleges in collaboration with the world’s leading technical universities. We have plans to open in Singapore and an online-based college (with physical intersessionals) for the English-speaking developing world in 2022/23 …  and 1-2 colleges per year thereafter, establishing 6-continent coverage by 2023/24.

The opportunities for ongoing – and rapid! – career advancement are limited only by your desire, drive and commitment.

We have been recommended for registration by NESA’s School Registration Committee and expect final Ministerial certification in the next couple/few weeks. Our IBO verification visit is on 22-23 June.
