The Role

The Head of Faculty – Science at CGGS plays an integral role in progressing science and its associated subjects in the academic offerings across all senior school year levels.  Forming an essential part of the middle management team, Heads of Faculty are responsible for all elements of curriculum development and delivery, pedagogy and strategic direction of their faculty.  The Head of Faculty creates strong relationships within the faculty team in order to deliver the highest standard of academic outcomes for the students.  They also work with parents in support of students, and external stakeholders to ensure a range of high quality delivery of science learning opportunities.

The role of the Head of Faculty is suited to a committed, passionate and innovative educator who understands the important place of Science in the senior schooling years and as a pathway into tertiary study.  Engagement with current research into best practice in science education and student learning outcomes is important to this role, as well as the ability to lead a team of committed educators in producing the best student outcomes. The Heads of Faculty are part of the academic management team of the Senior School and are involved in strategic and operational planning for furthering the educational outcomes of all students.  The Head of Faculty – Science should be organised, able to prioritise and meet deadlines and passionate about girls in science. 

This middle management position will commence in January 2021 and is initially a three-year contract position with a possible three-year extension.

Suitability

Candidates should hold appropriate undergraduate qualifications for a teaching and middle leadership position.  Postgraduate qualifications, specifically in student wellbeing, will be highly regarded.  Candidates are expected to possess a sound understanding of current educational trends and factors that impact adolescent girls learning. 

All teaching staff are expected to take part in the whole life of the School, including participation in pastoral care and co-curricular activities.

Candidates must have a current WWVP and registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (or ability to obtain this registration) as conditions of employment.  A current first aid certificate is desirable.
