The International School of Suva was founded in 1973 to serve the needs of the International community in Suva and to provide an alternative type of school for the Fiji citizens. The current role is approximately 650 with 50 in pre-school, 350 in primary school (years 1 to 6) and 250 in secondary (years 7 to 12). Approximately 40% of the students are citizens of Fiji and at least 30 other nationalities are represented. The curriculum has a strong emphasis on practical and creative skills and language is taught from year 7. The school does the IGCSE examinations at year 11 and have recently introduced the IB Middle Years Programme, making this school one of the the few full IB schools.
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme has been specifically chosen by ISS because of its authenticity as an international curriculum framework. Its philosophy and methodology specifically suit students in the middle years, and it provides a natural progression from primary school through to the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme at senior secondary level.
The MYP is a five year programme for students aged between 11 - 16 years in Years 7 - 11. It officially started at ISS in January 1998.
