“Since the School’s creation in 1915, we have grown from twelve students in a Parish Hall to the leading multi-campus school we are today. While the core principles laid down by our founder remain the same, our school has seen a great deal of change.
With campuses in Ivanhoe and Mernda, families in Melbourne’s North have access to the leading educational outcomes that Ivanhoe provides.
Rich in history, yet thoroughly vibrant, diverse and innovative, Ivanhoe Grammar School provides a wonderful environment for students and has a long history of providing excellent educational outcomes.
International in outlook with a wide range of co-curricular choices, Ivanhoe encourages students to discover and develop their strengths, no matter where their interests lie. Vibrant programs in areas such as performing and visual arts, music, sport, adventure, cadets, local and international service and leadership help students to develop their unique range of talents and gain an awareness and a sense responsibility about their world.
Our focus on student wellbeing and a shared set of values means students feel safe, valued and well cared for throughout their school years and beyond, with the Old Ivanhoe Grammarians network providing a valuable link to their school peers even after they have left school.”
The International Baccalaureate Programme provides more academic choice for our students. Students at The Ridgeway Campus have the opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme as an alternative to the VCE. The IB Diploma Programme operates around the world and provides a cohesive and comprehensive educational program for motivated students. Highly regarded by both Australian and international universities, the Diploma is recognised as an excellent tertiary preparation course. Students are encouraged to think critically and creatively, improve communication skills – both written and oral, develop an awareness and appreciation of other cultures, cultivate an international perspective and understanding and establish a pattern of commitment to learning. The ‘learner profile’ for the IB, which shapes the curriculum and pedagogy, emphasises 10 personal qualities including open-mindedness, courageousness and reflectiveness. The focus of this two-year program is the education of the whole person. It is based on a combination of the principles of: • enquiry-based learning • academic rigour • critical thinking Subjects offered at Ivanhoe Grammar School in 2017: Group 1 – Studies in Language and Literature: English Literature, Chinese Literature.
