Hunter Valley Grammar School is seeking an enthusiastic Educational Assistant to join our Junior School!

About the Role

Hunter Valley Grammar School seeks to appoint a part-time Educational Assistant’s on a 12-month fixed-term contract to our Junior School commencing in January 2026.

The Educational Assistant – Junior School (EAJS) plays a crucial role in supporting HVGS Junior School students and staff by supporting them to provide individual, small group and in-class support. The EAJS has a passion for helping students be the best they can be and help create an environment where students are able to flourish.

Work Pattern: There is flexibility in the work pattern dependent on candidates’ availability, however candiate availability 5 days a week Monday to Friday between 8am and 3.30pm is highly desirable. This position is only required to work during term time only.

Key Duties

As an Educational Assistant in the Junior School, you will be required to:

  • Provide small-group interventions in literacy and numeracy (where required).
  • Assist individual children to develop social, emotional, or behavioural skills as needed in accordance with a students personalized learning plan.
  • Develop and locate teaching resources to support teachers of students with diverse needs.
  • Support teachers to maintain an effective and vibrant learning environment, via the  delivery of educational curriculum, specifically as it relates to student’s individual needs.
  • ·         Undertake administrative duties including student progress reports, record keeping, support with data collection for NCCD funding, printing and copying.
  • ·         Support and assist teaching staff with the personal hygiene needs of students where reasonable required.
  • ·         Provide direct supervision to small groups of students during different times throughout the school day in both the classroom and playground / school grounds (ie playground duties).
  • Attendance at school exclusions and/or camps to support and assist students in both academic and non-academic activities.
  • Complete observations of students as required.
  • Set up equipment used in class when relevant to adjustments and modifications (inside and outside learning environments).
  • Support the Junior School Office with delivering messages to teachers and students, helping collect students as required.

About You

  • A Certificate III or IV in Educational Support or equivalent (highly desirable).
  • Hold a current CPR/First Aid Certificate or equivalent (desirable).
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check employment clearance (essential).
  • Have 2 year’s experience in a similar role (desirable).
  • High level of literacy and numeracy skills with a high level of attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
  • High level of written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills along with excellent digital literacy skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Adobe Suite).
  • Ability to engage with students of all ages compassionately and empathetically while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • A high level of integrity, patience, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to:
    • Work autonomously, using initiative and without direct supervision support.
    • Prioritise, work under pressure and to deadlines.
    • Build rapport quickly and maintain trust.
    • Contribute openly and with confidence with other team members in a respectful and sensitive manner.
    • Recognise internal and external feedback as an opportunity for growth.
    • Be flexible and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment, including the ability to modify learning activities to assist students with their needs.
    • Pick up new systems quickly.
