At Diocesan School for Girls, we are committed to nurturing young women who are confident, connected, and prepared to shape their future pathways. We are seeking an experienced and strategic Career Development Services Director to lead and deliver a future-focused, school-wide careers programme that empowers students to make informed decisions about their next steps.

This is a key leadership role, responsible for shaping and implementing an innovative and comprehensive career development strategy across Years 7–13. You will work collaboratively with staff, students, whānau, and external partners to ensure every student develops the skills, knowledge, and confidence to navigate their future.

Mō te tūranga | About the role
In this pivotal position, you will:
• Lead the design and delivery of a cohesive, school-wide career development programme aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum 
• Provide personalised career guidance, including one-on-one counselling for senior students and supporting whānau engagement
• Embed career education across curriculum and pastoral systems in partnership with teaching and leadership teams
• Oversee the Career Development Centre, ensuring effective systems, resources, and services are in place
• Manage and develop a small team, including performance, professional development, and day-to-day operations
• Coordinate key career-related events, communications, and initiatives to engage the wider school community
• Track and analyse student pathways and outcomes to inform future planning and continuous improvement
• Build and maintain strong networks with tertiary providers, industry, and community organisations to create authentic opportunities for students
• Oversee scholarship processes, university applications, and confidential reporting processes. Write references for scholarships, overseas University and accommodation applications, for all year 13 school leavers
• Lead strategic planning, evaluation, and reporting of career development programmes

We are seeking a collaborative and forward-thinking leader who brings

• Proven leadership and management experience, ideally within education or career development. A Careers qualification and a Teaching qualification.
• Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision into effective programmes and systems
• Exceptional organisational and planning skills, with attention to detail
• Highly developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills across a wide range of stakeholders
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with excellent writing skills
• Analytical capability, with experience using data to inform decision-making and programme evaluation
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach with a strong service mindset
• Confidence using digital systems and databases (experience with Synergetic is an advantage)
• A commitment to supporting young people to explore and achieve their future aspirations
