About the Role

The Music Faculty at Hunter Valley Grammar School has a reputation as one of the leading Music programs in the Hunter region. We are seeking a professional, musically knowledgeable and highly skilled guitar teacher to teach individual guitar students from K-12 across a variety of music styles.

This full-time role (8.00am – 4.30pm daily) will be required to actively further develop the music program within the co-curricular program, and to optimise opportunities to synergise and synchronise with the curriculum. The successful applicant will design and implement teaching programs specifically meeting the needs of each of their individual guitar students and ensembles, effectively collaborate with other guitar, instrumental specialist teachers and music classroom teachers as part of a high-performance music team culture.

Significant support and contribution towards the HSC music program (teaching and accompaniment) and studio related administrative duties. Ability to accompany students in Music Elective, HSC, IB Diploma and Co-Curricular performances is required.

Work Pattern – Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4.30pm (including a 1 hour unpaid break).

This position will have a full-time instrumental teaching load consisting of individual lessons, ensemble rehearsals and performances.

Key Duties

  • Teach Specialist Individual Guitar Lessons acknowledging School’s status as an IB PYP, MYP, DP and CP school, and expand one’s knowledge and understanding of the IB Programmes in The Arts.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of guitar students for the HSC (Music1, Music2 and Extension) and International Baccalaureate Diploma and Career Program.
  • Perform as a professional associate artist for student performances and school exams to HSC level across a range of music styles as delegated by the Director of Music.
  • Actively contribute to all assigned co-curricular Music activities such as Rock Bands and Guitar Ensembles.
  • Proactive in providing an academically engaging, challenging, rewarding, stimulating and safe environment where students are enthused about the study of Music.

About You

  • Appropriate Music, Educational and Instrumental qualifications/Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the relevant instrumental area.
  • Capacity to contribute to the school’s academic life through specialist individual instrument lessons.
  • Ability to be flexible in effectively collaborating and communicating with classroom teachers within a school that supports holistic opportunities for the students.
  • Capacity to inspire learners of all abilities and musical interests.
