St Mark’s School is a nurturing Anglican preschool and primary school located in central Wellington, opposite the iconic Basin Reserve cricket ground. As the central city’s only independent primary school for both boys and girls, we offer an exceptional education from preschool to Year 8. With around 250 students, we provide a close-knit environment where every child is known and valued. We integrate the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) with the New Zealand curriculum, promoting academic excellence and holistic development within our unique school character.
About the Role:
As Principal, you will provide visionary leadership, guiding the strategic direction of the school’s learning and education. You will also assume the role of PYP Coordinator, ensuring the effective implementation of the PYP framework. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring excellence in teaching and learning across both the IB PYP and NZ curriculum.
- Facilitating transdisciplinary collaborative planning across all teaching teams.
- Ensuring the continuity and integrity of the programme of inquiry through systems and documentation.
- Collaborating with the Board of Trustees and General Manager on the school’s strategic plan.
- Enhancing the school’s special character.
- Fostering positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community.
- Ensuring compliance with educational standards and leading a culture of excellence.
- Leading and inspiring professional development and continuous improvement for staff.
- Representing the school in the wider educational community.
- Working effectively with the Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team.
- Facilitating learning experiences for students for up to one day a week (0.2 FTE).
About You:
We seek a motivated, passionate, forward-looking and inspiring leader committed to delivering high-quality education. The ideal candidate will:
- Have proven experience as a Principal (3-5 years).
- Be a registered teacher with expertise in and deep knowledge of the PYP and IB frameworks, alongside familiarity with the NZ curriculum.
- Have a higher-level qualification in education.
- Be experienced collaborating with and developing educators through effective coaching skills.
- Have awareness of bicultural and multicultural issues in New Zealand.
