About the Role
The Director of Teaching Development is part of the Primary School Executive Leadership Team reporting to the Deputy Head – Head of Primary School.
The Director of Teaching Development will be responsible for the development, implementation and leadership of a strategic programme for the professional growth and development of staff in the Primary School that is consistent with approaches to be taken in the Senior School and for operational staff.
Key objectives of this role are to develop staff potential and assist in achieving career aspirations along with the successful delivery of professional learning programmes in collaboration with the Academic Leadership Team. They will be responsible for collaborating with staff through all levels of accreditation and registration. They will coordinate and support pre-service teachers, work experience students and assist to support staff new to the School.
The Director of Teaching Development are part of the Primary School Leadership Team and as such, the time allowance is 0.8 per cycle with a nominal teaching load of 0.2 per cycle. It is expected that they will be in attendance for the week prior to the start of the school year for teachers as to support new staff entering the school and be available for leadership responsibilities at the end of the school year.
About You
You are dedicated, passionate and possess the following:
- A relevant tertiary degree and teaching qualification
- An ACT teacher’s registration through the ACT TQI or the eligibility to obtain
- Proven high-level leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills and experience
- Track record of high-level engagement with contemporary educational theory and practice
- Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating professional growth programmes
- A track record of successful leadership in a school or other educational setting
- Strong understanding of reflection and observation, data interpretation, feedback and coaching, opportunity and support, and planning and sustainability as key components of professional growth
- Ability to plan, organise, and manage professional learning programs, such as the CPL pathways program of rolling workshops
- Proficiency in managing professional learning processes, including administration, recording, and maintaining relevant online resources
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other educational institutions and promote the school as a provider of professional learning opportunities
- Ability to liaise with universities for teacher training and placement opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and oversight of the school’s approach to using technology and online platforms in contemporary learning and teaching
- Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
- Ability to guide and support staff in developing professional resilience in dealing with conflict, difficult conversations, and complex situations

- A valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card
- A current National Police Check
- Full working rights within Australia
- Excellent written English and effective interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent understanding of all elements of learning and teaching
