About the Role

HVGS School Psychologists are responsible for the delivery of high quality mental health and counselling services to the school community in accordance with our vision and values. Our Psychologists’ expertise and their kind, compassionate care support students to develop and nourish positive relationships, and enhance students’ school engagement and sense of belonging. Working collaboratively with parents and staff, they encourage and support the positive mental health and wellbeing, personal growth and resilience of students and staff.

This position is a part time (0.8 FTE) temporary position until end June 2026.

Work Pattern: 8:00am to 4:00 pm with a meal break, 38 hours per week

Key Duties

  • Provide psychological counselling, support and programs to individuals and groups of students with social, emotional and behavioural needs on a range of issues that may impact upon academic performance and progress.
  • Undertake psychoeducational, social-emotional, cognitive and behavioural assessments of referred students to support greater understanding of students learning and psychological support needs.
  • Support and facilitate evidence-informed and evidence-based interventions and other proactive programs and initiatives to support student learning and wellbeing, and which are responsive to the changing needs of students and the school community.
  • Collaborate with well-being staff and teaching teams to deliver psychological expertise and assistance that fosters a compassionate understanding of mental health issues and complex student needs.
  • Consult and liaise with professionals from external agencies including medical and allied health specialists, and coordinate referrals working with families and HVGS staff.
  • Collect and maintain information for students accessing counselling and psychological support, adhering to record keeping in line with HVGS policies and procedures and AHPRA professional standards.
  • Maintain professional learning competencies, attend professional development and adhere to growth in learning in line with AHPRA professional standards.
  •  Contribute to professional learning within the broader HVGS school community to build school capacity to enhances student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Participate in the broader life of the school community, including extra-curricular activities according to professional priorities were resourcing permits, utilizing skills and strengths to benefit student and school community outcomes.

About You

  • Current Professional Registration as a Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agencey (AHPRA).
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents and their families, including undertaking psychological assessments of children and young people and delivering evidence-informed and evidence-based interventions.
  • Counselling experience in a school setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to child safety and child welfare including understanding and capacity to enact child protection legislation requirements and guidelines as they apply to schools.
  • Awareness of and capacity to manage the legal, ethical and organisational requirements of psychological practice in an educational setting.
  • Well-developed organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and responsively, with kindness and compassionate manner in a team context.
