About the Role
The Library Information Services Team consists of Teacher Librarians and Library Technicians, offering access to an extensive range of resources relevant to the information needs of learners. The Teacher Librarian’s role is predominantly teaching and collaborating. The team works closely with teachers and students to develop tasks meaningful to curriculum studies, as well as support the development of skills and multiliteracies. The Teacher Librarian works across the ELC – 12 school.
This position is a part time (0.6 FTE) temporary position until end March 2026.
Work Pattern: Three (3) days a week, 22.8 hours per week
Key Duties
The Teacher Librarian works with enthusiasm and creativity across the following areas:
Students:
- Be responsible for developing a clear knowledge of the students in their class and be able to account to parents concerning their progress.
- Work closely with the Head of Stage and Head of Year to provide pastoral care to students. While each teacher is responsible for discipline, they should liaise with the Head of Stage and Head of Year in accordance with well-being and behavior policies.
Content:
- Have a comprehensive understanding of NESA syllabuses and the Information Fluency Framework.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the IB philosophy and framework.
- Be familiar with Oliver (or a similar Library Management System) and Schools Catalogue Information Service (SCIS).
Teaching and Learning:
- Collaboratively plan, teach, and evaluate units of work across ELC – 12.
- Focus on embedding Guided Inquiry Design and the explicit teaching of multiliteracy skills.
- Support development of curriculum and integration of new syllabuses.
- Advocate and support STEAM across P-12 and the development of reading, literacy and digital literacy with students and teachers across ELC –12.
Reporting:
- Keep accurate records, follow up where anomalies occur and contribute to reports on students’ work and progress.
Community:
- Attend parent/teacher nights, presentation ceremonies and other school functions as determined by the Principal, some being outside normal hours.
- Liaise with colleagues and refer students to other professionals within the school, for example, to the Academic support teacher or the school counsellor, as required.
- Cultivate professional relationships with parents as primary stakeholders in our community.
About You
- Relevant teaching qualifications (Master of Education in Teacher Librarianship).
- Current NESA accreditation, or capacity to gain accreditation with NESA.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional learning.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- High level understanding of digital literacy and inquiry learning.
- Expertise in developing, implementing and assessing programmes in a collaborative manner.
- Have familiarity with the NSW Department of Education Information Fluency Framework.
- Knowledge of the ACARA digital technologies framework.
- Experience and dedication to teaching across ELC – 12.
- Demonstrated abilities as a dynamic and adaptive teacher with a passion for learning.
- Contemporary knowledge of library trends and practices.
- Commitment to work as part of a variety of vibrant teams.
- Exemplary customer service skills.
- Experienced collaborator with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in developing and delivering training programmes and frameworks in an educational environment.
