Hunter Valley Grammar School (HVGS) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Science Teacher with the capacity to teach Years 7–12, including Stage 6 Biology and either Chemistry or Physics. Experience with or a willingness to learn the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is essential. This is a full-time, permanent position with a comprehensive teaching load and opportunities to contribute to co-curricular and wellbeing programs. About the Role

HVGS Science Classroom Teacher will have experience or capacity to teach Year’s 7-12 Science with demonstrated experience in Stage 6 Biology and either Chemistry or Physics highly desirable. Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or a willingness to undertake Professional Learning to teach the IB MYP is expected.

This position is permanent, full time and will have a full-time teaching load equivalent to up to 46 x 50-minute periods over a two-week (60 period) cycle.

Work Pattern: 8:00am until at least 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Key Duties

  • Teach a full load of classes as determined by the applicable timetable.
  • Be proactive in providing an academically challenging, stimulating and safe environment where students are enthused about their studies.
  • Foster a commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration and sharing of knowledge and information with colleagues.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Display a strong dedication to customer service.
  • Engage actively in the wellbeing program of the School, including taking a Mentor Group each morning and for scheduled wellbeing lessons (2 periods in a 10 day cycle), contribute to wellbeing reporting, monitoring/mentoring of student development etc.
  • Actively support student engagement in service-learning program(s) of the School, both within the classroom and beyond it.
  • Applicants should be prepared to make a contribution to the School’s co-curricular program in area(s) of interest or expertise.
  • Attend all identified assemblies, carnivals, meetings and Professional Learning days as scheduled.
  • Attend Parent/Teacher evenings, presentation ceremonies and other school functions as determined by the Principal, some which are outside of normal hours.
  • Actively support and demonstrate proficiency in the use of the School’s Learning Management System as associated programmes (e.g. TASS, Microsoft Teams/OneNote, Toddle).
  • Have an active Professional Learning Plan and attend all required Professional Learning sessions etc.
  • Attend an annual school camp; which generally occur during term time and require some nights away.

About You

  • Appropriate educational qualifications/Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant subject area, and current NESA registration.
  • Demonstrated experience in, or an understanding of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP)/willingness to engage in provided Professional Learning in the IB.
  • Ability to teach 7-10 Science and a capacity to contribute to STEM based activities in the faculty.
  • Demonstrated capacity to inspire young learners, possessing a commitment to learning and a passion for teaching.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills, a willingness to be an active team member and contribute to the Faculty.
  • A demonstrated clarity of educational purpose, vision, and engagement with our School Values.
  • Ensure teaching practice continues to meet the NESA Standards for Teacher Accreditation at the relevant level by performing a range of professional activities as part of ongoing practice.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to completing the required minimum hours of Professional Learning (including the specified hours of NESA Registered PD).
  • Manage one’s own annual accreditation requirements including fee payment and maintenance of a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance.
