Working closely with the Principal, and as a key member of the College Executive, the Head of Junior School will be an accomplished leader, with an ability to engage wholeheartedly and authentically with our community. They will provide inspirational leadership, vision and direction to our Junior School, within the context of a Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 school.
About the role
This is a role that can shape the future of primary education at Radford College. As a school that offers the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP), the school is committed to inquiry-based learning, balanced with strong foundational skills in literacy and numeracy. The appointee will be an exceptional communicator, a proven educational leader and have experience in leading and building a strong culture of trust, professional discipline and care.
This role is responsible for leading Radford College’s Junior School and Early Learning Centre, ensuring strategic alignment with the whole-school vision and fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and flourishing. The role is responsible for leadership of the Junior School; however, the successful candidate will have a Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 perspective.
The Head of Junior School provides visionary leadership to staff and students, overseeing curriculum development, pedagogy, well-being programs, and operational management in a highly relational and collaborative manner. They also support the Principal in whole-school strategic initiatives and community engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic and operational leadership as a key member of the College Executive team.
- Leading and managing teams responsible in delivering excellence for teaching and learning, pastoral care, co-curricular programs, and various operational functions within the Junior School.
- Developing and implementing initiatives that promote student well-being, resilience, character development and positive behaviour from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6.
- Elevating academic outcomes and ensuring continuous improvement in student achievement, including extending and challenging high potential learners.
- Ensuring educational programs are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and build strong foundational skills in literacy and numeracy across all year levels.
- Fostering a culture of strong relationships and effective communication within the Junior School community and with the wider College.
- Ensuring the College’s Christian values are embedded and celebrated within the Junior School culture.
- Contributing to the College’s strategic planning, policy development, and overall governance.
We are seeking an inspiring, experienced, and deeply committed educational leader who possesses:
- Demonstrated success in senior leadership roles within a Junior School setting, with extensive experience across the Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6 context.
- A profound understanding of early childhood and primary pedagogy, with a proven track record of delivering outstanding learning outcomes and fostering a love of learning.
- Exceptional pastoral care capabilities, with a genuine commitment to student well-being and the unique developmental needs of younger children.
- Proven ability to provide future-focused leadership, driving innovation and strategic change within a primary context.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with a strong ability to engage with young children, parents, and staff.
- A deep commitment to the Anglican ethos and Christian values of Radford College.
- Extensive experience in making a significant contribution to the broader educational community through speaking at conferences, writing papers, and actively contributing to the educational debate.
- The capacity to inspire, motivate, and mentor a diverse team of dedicated professionals.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required
- Bachelor of Education
- A degree at master’s level is desirable
- Working with Vulnerable People clearance
- Work rights in Australia
