Reporting directly to the Deputy Principal and a key member of the Secondary Leadership team, the Director of Upper School (Years 7-10) will be an accomplished leader, with an ability to engage wholeheartedly and authentically with our community.
The Director of Upper School (Years 7-10) is a key strategic and operational position, responsible for the holistic development and success of our students in the middle years of secondary schooling.
About the role
This is a significant leadership opportunity and key responsibilities include excellence in pastoral and operational leadership, with a strong understanding of character education, student well-being, behaviour management, and restorative practices.
The Director of Upper School (Years 7-10) will play a crucial role in upholding and enhancing Radford’s reputation for academic excellence, strong pastoral care, holistic development and operational efficiency. This involves overseeing the efficient and effective daily operations within the Upper School, ensuring a well-organised, safe, and supportive environment that maximises learning opportunities and student engagement. A deep and nuanced commitment to student well-being and pastoral care as paramount for this developmental stage. You will lead the pastoral care framework for Years 7-10, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels known, valued, and supported. This involves proactive character education initiatives, resilience-building programs, and ensuring robust support systems are in place to guide students through the unique social and emotional challenges of early adolescence.
A core responsibility will be to successfully guide and develop students in building core academic skills across all disciplines, ensuring a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking that best prepares students for their senior years. Beyond academic and pastoral care, you will champion the broad range of co-curricular opportunities available to our Upper School students. You will actively encourage their widespread participation in sports, the arts, service learning, and leadership initiatives, ensuring a balanced and enriching educational experience that develops competencies in vital life skills.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic leadership and vision for the Upper School (Years 7-10).
- Overseeing the development and successful implementation of a curriculum that builds core academic skills and foundational knowledge in preparation for Senior School.
- Working closely with students, parents, and staff to ensure optimal academic outcomes and personal growth.
- Leading and developing the Upper School pastoral care team, fostering a culture of well-being and support tailored for adolescent development.
- Promoting and integrating the College’s values and ethos throughout the Upper School.
- Encouraging broad student involvement in co-curricular activities to develop life competencies.
- Contributing to the College’s strategic planning and overall leadership.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required
- Bachelor of Education
- A degree at master’s level is desirable
- Working with Vulnerable People clearance
- Work rights in Australia
