Classroom Teacher – PDHPE – Two Roles

About the Role
Hunter Valley Grammar School seeks to appoint the following positions to join the PDHPE Faculty – commencing in Term 1, 2026:
- One (1) full time (1.0 FTE) permanent PDHPE teacher
- One (1) full time (1.0 FTE) temporary PDHPE teacher – fixed term contact for 2026
HVGS’s Classroom Teacher – PDHPE is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in personal development, health and physical education to students in years 7-12.
This role involves planning and implementing curriculum-aligned lessons that support students’ physical health, personal development, and overall wellbeing.
The Classroom teacher – PDHPE will foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promote student engagement, and support academic achievement in both theoretical and practical components of PDHPE.
The full-time teaching load for both positions is equivalent to up to 46 x 50-minute periods over a two-week (60 period) cycle.
Work Pattern: 8:00 am until at least 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
Key Duties
- Teach a full load of PDHPE classes (Years 7-12) as determined by the applicable timetable.
- Be proactive in providing an academically challenging, stimulating and safe environment where students are enthused about their studies.
- Foster a commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration and sharing of knowledge and information with colleagues.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Display a strong dedication to customer service.
- Engage actively in the wellbeing program of the School, assisting with a Mentor Group each morning and during scheduled wellbeing periods, monitoring/mentoring of student development etc.
- Attend all identified assemblies, carnivals, meetings and Professional Learning days as scheduled.
- Attend Parent/Teacher evenings, presentation ceremonies and other school functions as determined by the Principal, some which are outside of normal hours.
- Actively support and demonstrate proficiency in the use of the School’s Learning Management System as associated programmes (e.g. TASS, Microsoft Teams/OneNote).
- Attend an annual school camp; which generally occur during term time and require some nights away.
- Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to the School’s business.
- Any other duties as directed by the Principal.
About You
- Appropriate educational qualifications/Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant subject area, and current NESA registration.
- Demonstrated capacity to inspire young learners, possessing a commitment to learning and a passion for teaching.
- A high level of interpersonal skills, a willingness to be an active team member and contribute to the Faculty.
- A demonstrated clarity of educational purpose, vision, and engagement with our School Values.
- Ensure teaching practice continues to meet the NESA Standards for Teacher Accreditation at the relevant level by performing a range of professional activities as part of ongoing practice.
- Demonstrate a commitment to completing the required minimum hours of Professional Learning (including the specified hours of NESA Registered PD).
- Manage one’s own annual accreditation requirements including fee payment and maintenance of a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance.
- Familiarity with, and willingness to teach the new Stage 6 Health & Movement Science course would be favourable.
- Capacity to teach Stage 5 PASS and/or Stage 6 Community & Family Studies would be considered advantageous. For a complete picture of the role, you can find the full Job Description on our website.
