About the Role
Hunter Valley Grammar School seeks to appoint a permanent full-time teacher of English.
Applicants are expected to be able to teach up to Stage 6 English Advanced and have demonstrated success in delivering outstanding results. Capacity to teach HSC English Extension and/or IB Diploma Programme Language & Literature would be considered advantageous.
Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Programmes and/or a willingness to undertake Professional Learning to teach the IB programmes is expected.
This position will have a full-time teaching load equivalent to up to 46 x 50-minute periods over a two-week (60 period) cycle.
Work Pattern: 8:00am until at least 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Key Duties
- Fulfil the responsibilities of a Hunter Valley Grammar School teacher, upholding the School’s values, motto and mission as detailed in staff policies and the Staff Code of Conduct.
- Be proactive in providing an academically challenging, stimulating and safe environment for students to succeed and flourish.
- Foster a commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration, and sharing of knowledge and information with colleagues.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to develop and deliver engaging programs of inquiry, based on the International Baccalaureate framework, which comply with all NESA requirements.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and/or a strong willingness to engage in IB professional learning.
- Demonstrate a deep commitment to knowing each and every student in the classroom, and building strong partnerships for learning with each student.
- Demonstrate an active understanding of documented Personalised Learning Plans and Class Plans for those students requiring identified support and/or differentiation.
- Embody the dispositions required to build and maintain a strong collaborative culture.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Engage actively in the wellbeing program of the School, including taking a Mentor Group each morning (and during scheduled wellbeing periods), and fulfilling all aspects of the mentor role to a high standard.
- Actively support student engagement in the service learning program(s) of the School, both within the classroom and beyond.
- Attend all identified assemblies, sporting carnivals, meetings and Professional Learning days as required.
- Attend Parent/Teacher evenings, presentation ceremonies and other identified school functions as determined by the Principal, (some which are outside of normal working hours).
- Actively support and demonstrate proficiency in the use of the School/Learning Management Systems and associated programmes (e.g. Microsoft Teams/OneNote, TASS)
- Attend an annual school camp/trip and fulfil timetabled requirements for playground and bus duties.
- Contribute meaningfully to the school’s co-curricular program of activities, in accordance with the expectations of all teaching staff, and in areas of interest or expertise.
- Engage actively in the HVGS Professional Growth Cycle.
- Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to the school’s business.
About You
- Appropriate educational qualifications/Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant subject area, and current NESA registration.
- Demonstrated experience in, or an understanding of the International Baccalaureate Programmes
- Ability to teach HSC English (with desired experience in successfully teaching the new HSC English Advanced syllabus).
- Demonstrated capacity to inspire young learners, possessing a commitment to learning and a passion for teaching.
- Capacity to teach HSC English Extension and/or IB Diploma Programme Language & Literature, would be considered an advantage.
- Capacity to teach in a second subject area may be considered an advantage.
- A high level of interpersonal skills, a willingness to be an active team member and contribute to the Faculty.
- A demonstrated clarity of educational purpose, vision, and engagement with our School Values.
- Ensure teaching practice continues to meet the NESA Standards for Teacher Accreditation at the relevant level by performing a range of professional activities as part of ongoing practice
- Demonstrate a commitment to completing the required minimum hours of Professional Learning (including the specified hours of NESA Registered PD).
