Inspire the Next Generation of Young Women — Senior School Kapa Haka Tutor
$75 per hour | Year 7–13 students | Term 1, 2026 start

At Diocesan School for Girls, we are dedicated to nurturing young women who are curious, courageous, and empowered to shape their futures.

We are seeking an inspiring, culturally grounded Kapa Haka Tutor to lead and grow our Senior School Kapa Haka programme (Years 7–13). This part-time role offers a special opportunity to ignite a passion for Māori performing arts, fostering confidence, teamwork, and pride in cultural identity through waiata, haka, poi, and tikanga Māori.

The biggest event of the year is ASB Polyfest in Term 1, with several school and community performances throughout the year to prepare for.  In Term one, the hours will be approximately 15 hours per week.  Terms 2-4, the role will be 2-3 hours per week.

Mō te tūranga | About the role
• Tutor Kapa Haka across the Senior School, nurturing students’ performance skills and cultural understanding.
• Plan and deliver engaging, authentic sessions that bring Te Reo Māori, tikanga, and mātauranga to life.
• Prepare students for Polyfest and school events with strong leadership and organisation.
• Collaborate with staff, whānau, and Te Whare Huia (the Māori Department) to strengthen cultural programmes and connections.
• Coordinate performance logistics, including piupiu, uniforms, props, and rehearsals.
• Start date: End of January 2026

Ngā pūkenga me whai | We’re looking for someone with
• Experience tutoring Kapa Haka or Māori performing arts in a school or community setting.
• Strong knowledge of tikanga Māori, kawa, and Te Reo Māori.
• Inspirational leadership and communication skills, with a genuine love for working with rangatahi.
• A collaborative spirit and commitment to fostering cultural pride and belonging.
• A teaching qualification (preferred but not essential).
