8.45-9.00 INTRODUCTION: Peter Goetze -Director of IB, Trinity Grammar
9.00-10.00 “Curiosity killed the cat.” Dr Chris Longhurst
Is creativity lost in education particularly in mathematics education? Have mathematics classrooms killed creativity?
Too often we concentrate on the final product, that is passing the exam rather than acquiring an appreciation of mathematics and developing creativity. Dr Chris Longhurst proposes that we can do both and also have our students enjoying their experiences of mathematics. He will give lots of examples of simple ways we can engage our students in the subject of mathematics and introduce us to some of the ideas from the famous educationalist Sir Ken Robinson. He will then lead us into techniques for creating problem-solving and visualization strategies using technology.
