Norwood International High School

Introduction

Norwood International High School has a proud and enduring tradition of academic excellence and providing opportunities for all. We are a vibrant, progressive learning community of approximately 1700 students from diverse cultural backgrounds, located in the foothills of eastern Adelaide. Our school is a unique place to grow, learn and discover.

We recognise that every student brings a unique set of skills, talents and interests. We value this diversity and are committed to developing each student as an individual. Our aim is to inspire a passion for learning and engage our students in a world class educational experience that empowers them to achieve their personal best in all aspects of learning and life.

Our vision is to empower curious and compassionate global citizens, shaping a better world for themselves and their communities. This vision is underpinned by our core values of Community, Curiosity, Diversity and Integrity, and our school motto, by daring and by doing, which highlights our belief in courage, curiosity, confidence and purposeful action.

Our Middle and Senior School structures are thoughtfully designed to respond to the developmental needs of adolescents. We strive to empower, support and challenge our students, helping them discover their strengths and develop their full potential.

In the Middle School (Years 7 to 10), students engage in a broad and dynamic curriculum delivered through the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). The programme fosters inquiry based learning, global awareness and student agency. Language acquisition is a key element of the MYP, with students choosing from Italian, Greek, Chinese, German or Japanese.

Through the MYP, students build a strong foundation in Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills including communication, collaboration, organisation, critical thinking and self management which equips them to navigate a rapidly changing future. They also participate in interdisciplinary learning, service experiences and opportunities to engage in social innovation and entrepreneurship.

In the Senior School, students can choose to undertake the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) in Years 11 and 12. The DP is an internationally recognised and academically rigorous programme that nurtures well rounded, reflective and principled learners. Students study six subjects alongside three core components: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE). The DP challenges students intellectually while strengthening their ATL skills, preparing them to thrive in further education and as ethical contributors in a global society.

In addition to our IB programmes, Norwood International High School offers three distinct special interest programmes: Accelerated STEM, Italian Immersion and Rowing, providing enriched opportunities for students to pursue their passions and extend their learning.
