St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School provides outstanding opportunities and a unique educational model for families with a coeducational Junior School (ELC to Year 6), and single gender (Year 7 to 12) senior campuses at Berwick and Officer. St Margaret's Junior School is a fully authorised provider of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). Our shared philosophy is a commitment to empowering students with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and personal attributes that will instill in them a life-long love of learning, a desire to inquire, and an ethical responsibility to positively contribute to the global community.
This is characterised by the attributes of the IB learner profile which all members of our school community demonstrate and aspire to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.
The PYP provides, teachers, students and families a shared language, structured and sequential curriculum and a consistent approach to teaching and learning.
Our students develop an understanding of important concepts; conduct research that has local and global significance; acquire a range of essential skills; develop positive attitudes towards learning, the environment and other people. The academic learning is enhanced by the introduction of the laptop program at the commencement of Year 5. Individual laptops provide valuable tools, which enables the students to develop key skills in digital technologies. The PYP program is culminated and showcased in Year 6, where each student uses their skills developed during their primary years to provide a detailed PYP Exhibition.
Extra-curricular activities incorporate music, sport, outdoor education, academic extension, Year 6 Canberra Tour, and community service inspires the students to embrace life’s challenges and opportunities. This provides a strong foundation for the students before commencing their senior years.

St Margaret’s is a fully authorised IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) throughout the coeducational Junior School. This extends from our 3 year old students in the Early Learning Centre right through to our 12 year old boys and girls in Year 6. With many years experience and involvement with the programme, St Margaret’s Junior School is considered a leading PYP school with several staff members having training and expertise as members of the IB Educator Network (IBEN) within the Asia-Pacific region. These staff facilitate IB workshops to provide professional learning for other teachers, present at regional conferences, and also provide support for other schools in their roles as IB consultants and School Visiting Team Leaders. Through the PYP in the Junior School, St Margaret’s provides a vibrant, exciting and supportive learning environment for its students. They are engaged and challenged to be active and positive life-long learners who are inspired to take action. Our students are encouraged to develop a wide variety of skills through the various opportunities within the programme - this includes music, PE/sport, visual arts, learning enhancement and languages (French and Chinese).
