South Australian Diploma Coordinators
The Diploma has been in operation in South Australia since 1989 when Pembroke School’s Diana Medlin introduced the program. Mrs Medlin was a distinguished educator who became the first President of the Australian Association of Australasian International Schools (AAIBS) and a member of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). Since then the Diploma has steadily grown in popularity and in the number of schools offering the program (Glenunga International High School, Mercedes College, Woodcroft College, Prince Alfred College, St Peter’s Boys’ College, Walford School, Concordia College, St Peters Girls’ College, Seymour College). Interestingly, notwithstanding the growth, the Diploma Coordinators and Principals of each school have endeavoured to ensure that the collegiality evident between the first schools has remained strong as new schools take up the program and at the core of this sense of common purpose is the Diploma Coordinators network.
Activities & services
The network members meet regularly once a term for professional discussion and support, activity planning and networking. Members have been involved in organising common TOK activities between schools, arranging guest speakers and visits/delegations to Tertiary Admissions Centres and universities and also plan the annual IB Diploma Award Ceremony at the Adelaide Town Hall.
