For more than 50 years, Mercedes College has welcomed students from around the world into our high-quality and award-winning International Student Programme, where we provide a holistic education experience, supporting students to develop and reach their potential, preparing them to be global citizens. 

The International Student Programme brings together Educators, parents/caregivers, international agents and government departments to facilitate the learning experience for international students.

The role 

The Coordinator of Student Welfare & Accommodation – ISP is responsible for:

  • Sourcing appropriate accommodation for International Students, in accordance with the ESOS Act and established screening processes, matching student requirements with accommodation providers
  • Monitor all student accommodation to ensure agreed standards are maintained.
  • The provision of orientation and transition services to all International Students, including for example assisting with the purchase of uniform, textbook and stationary items, assisting students to understand VISA compliance, Australian lifestyle and College expectations, and coordination of airport pick up of new students
  • College liaison between accommodation providers and International Students and agents (including 24-hour emergency contact)
  • Manage the quality of the out of school experience of International Students, including arranging activities during holidays to compliment the social welfare of International Students.
  • Develop advertising campaigns to attract accommodation providers.
  • Accommodation provider management, including maintenance of the accommodation register and a pool of suitable accommodation providers, relevant reporting, coordinating and conducting meetings and engaging providers in the life of the College.
  • Arrange and attend meetings with Students with respect to accommodation issues.
  • Manage records of compliance of students with DIAC Regulations.
  • Maintain Visa compliance and develop and implement strategies to assist International Students with Visa compliance.
  • Regular liaison with the ISP Academic Administrator, Student Pathways Coordinator and/or College Psychologist or Council and Principal with respect to academic, social and disciplinary issues pertaining to International Students.
  • Assisting in providing professional, welcoming and ‘front of house’ College services within the International Student Community.

 

About you

You’re an experienced Coordinator who has:

  • a Diploma in a relevant discipline, such as business, administration, international relations, property, or can demonstrate equivalent competency obtained through relevant certifications
  • Experience working with children and young people, ideally international students and in a similar role (desirable but not essential)
  • Driver’s License and access to a vehicle (a per kilometre allowance for business use is paid as per College policy).
  • Relevant experience in property management and understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act 1985, applications and agreements, property inspections and agreements tenancy applications would be an advantage.
  • Strong intercultural awareness and knowledge of matters affecting students studying abroad
  • Demonstrable experience collaborating as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Willingness to uphold and contribute to the culture and ethos of our Catholic College
  • Strong ability to exercise judgement, use initiative and problem solve effectively to resolve issues
  • Excellent organisational skills and flexibility with the ability to prioritise tasks, multi-task, meet deadlines and be accountable for outcomes.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, in writing and in person, with a range of internal and external stakeholders and across cultural boundaries
  • Ability to be flexible and respond to current needs as they occur.
  • Proficiency in computing skills and good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) in accordance with the Child Protection Policy of the South Australian Commission of Catholic Schools (SACCS)
  • HLTAID Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting Certificate
  • Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect in an Education and Care setting (RRHAN-EC) certificate
