The School

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and engaging educator to fill the permanent, full time role of Outdoor Education Teacher in our Middle School. Early career and experienced teachers are welcome to apply. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with a well-established and engaging teaching program and a helpful and encouraging team.

All students in Years 7 - 10, are engaged in a yearly Outdoor Education program that exposes students to a range of sequential and progressive experiences in the outdoors. Year 7 students participate in a three day camp and Year 8 students in a 4 day camp that takes place at the School's Outdoor Education property, Old Watulunga. Year 9 students travel to the Southern Yorke Peninsula for a five day, split program that centres primarily on marine ecology and a bushwalk expedition. Year 10 students participate in a six day sailing/kayaking expedition in the Southern Lakes and connected Coorong regions.

What the role will involve

The Teacher of Outdoor Education will be responsible for supporting the acquisition and development of outdoor educational knowledge and skills and the Pastoral Care of the students whilst on overnight camps throughout each year. 

The Outdoor Education Teacher will:

  • Support the Coordinator of Outdoor Education (Middle School) with development of education programs.
  • Develop, manage and conduct certification programs.
  • Demonstrate and promote excellence in teaching and Outdoor Education.
  • Support a stimulating, focused, challenging and safe learning environment which reflects the aims and values of the School.
  • Liaise with and organise external providers to ensure delivery of the program.
  • Work collaboratively with other Outdoor Education staff.

What we are looking for 

The successful applicant will have a passion for teaching outdoor education and will be friendly, approachable and able to relate well to students and parents.

Essential

  • Qualified and registered teacher with formal qualifications and demonstrated experience in the teaching of Outdoor Education.
  • Strong understanding of Risk Assessment and Risk Management, WH&S regulations and food handling protocols. 

Hold or be willing to obtain before commencement:

  • Current Wilderness First Aid Certificate.
  • LR or MR Drivers Licence and experience driving buses
  • Powerboat Handling certificate
  • Current DHS Working with Children Check
  • Current Reporting Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect (previously Reporting Abuse and Neglect) training certificate
  • Current Protective Practices training certificate 

Additionally, hold two or more of the following qualifications:

  • Yachting Australia Sailing Instructor
  • Australian Canoeing Flat-water Level 1 Instructor
  • Bushwalking Instructor
  • SAREA Rock Climbing Certificate or High Rope Instructor
  • Surf Safety Qualifications
