English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher

Kensington Park · South Australia
  • Pembroke Connect Program (PCP)
  • 1.0FTE Permanent Position
  • Commencing January 2021

Pembroke School is a co-educational, non-denominational, day and boarding School from Early Learning Centre to Year 12. Pembroke School offers the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and is also an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the IB Diploma and the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Pembroke School has an established program for newly enrolled students who need intensive support in developing their English language skills prior to transitioning to mainstream classes in their year level. The program offers an English language learning experience to equip students to confidently participate in a growing range of co-curricular and curricular activities with their peers and to ultimately transition to appropriate year level subjects to continue their studies.

We are seeking a skilled educator with a strong empathy for the challenges facing EAL students in an immersion learning environment. The successful applicant will be a qualified EAL teacher, registered (or able to be registered) as a teacher in the State of South Australia. Previous experience working in an intensive English Language Centre would be an advantage. Students will be working in a small group environment, often on individualised programs, to meet their varying language level needs and the successful applicant will be adept at planning relevant sequences of work to engage students and ensure timely development of their language skills. The EAL teacher would ideally have experience teaching EAL from Years 7 to Stage 2 EAL, which may form part of their teaching load.

The EAL teacher will be responsible for the delivery of curriculum with relevant contemporary materials and pedagogical approaches; assessment of student work, including regular English level testing; and reporting results for students in the Pembroke Connect Program to parents and School Administration at regular intervals.
