Philosophy & Religion Studies (PRS) Teacher

Newington College seeks a dynamic teacher to join the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department to commence at the beginning of Term 1, 2021. The College offers both the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) and the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP). An ability and willingness to contribute to the pastoral care and co-curricular program will be required.

About the role:

A thriving department, Philosophy and Religious Studies provides innovative programs as part of the compulsory core curriculum (Years 7-10). There are philosophy elective courses in Years 8, 9 and 10. In the senior years, students may choose Studies of Religion (I and II Unit) for the HSC. For the IB Diploma, the Department is responsible for Philosophy as a Group 3 subject and the Theory of Knowledge course.

The approach to the subject is conceptual and inter-disciplinary, exploring philosophical and ethical issues from a variety of perspectives. There is an emphasis on critical thinking and philosophical inquiry.

About you:

You will be a registered teacher by the NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA) with appropriate teaching and tertiary qualifications. You will have a sound understanding of the learning needs of boys and engage boys in a vibrant education program across Years 7 – 12. You will have a proven ability to work as an effective member of an enthusiastic team. You will utilise appropriate technologies to enhance the teaching program. You will be prepared to participate in the College co-curricular program. You will show a genuine appreciation and commitment to pastoral care and be prepared to participate in an active co-curricular program.
