Queensland Academy Creative Industries Campus (QACI) is seeking applicants for the Head of Department to lead our English and IB Group 3 (Business and Psychology) faculties. We are an academically selective entry, co-educational, state governed high school, offering exclusively the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum to students in Years 10 - 12.

QACI is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and is proud to uphold the values of an IB education. QACI currently offers the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) as its core curriculum in Years 11 and 12. The IB DP is a demanding pre-university course of study assessed by external examinations. It has earned a reputation for rigorous learning and assessment, and as such gives IB DP holders access to the world's leading universities. QACI is partnered with the Queensland University of Technology.

As the Head of Department English and Group 3, you will focus on curriculum leadership – participating in delivering the vision of the Department of Education and developing the quality of teaching and learning and nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders. You will develop and lead a plan that addresses, extends and celebrates “Effective Teaching Practice” and strategically implement activities and opportunities for staff to engage in recognised deficits/needs noted through Collegial Engagement. You will play a vital role in coaching and mentoring staff for Performance Development Plans.

About the Role

The Head of English/Group 3 is accountable to and under the direction of the school Principal or delegate.

In addition to the above, you will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:

  • Lead the school faculty to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Model and set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  • Be futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school faculty Applicants with knowledge, training and experience in the International Baccalaureate Programmes and the education of gifted and talented students, as well as the capacity to teach in the subject areas listed will be highly regarded.

Applicants must have formal, tertiary training, be able to attain Queensland College of Teachers registration and teaching experience in one or more of the areas listed above.
