Who we are
Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) is an independent non-selective Anglican school with an enrolment of approximately 1,300 students. The School has a strong reputation as a leader in the education of girls.

CGGS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and the only continuum school in the ACT authorised to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP).

Our intent is to develop children and young women that are well educated and who insist on living ethically and purposely. This is an opportunity to join a dedicated, supportive and innovative team in a school committed to excellence.

Known affectionately as ‘the BoHo', our Boarding community is a thriving and supportive environment for up to 85 girls and young women from around the country, and the world.  At CGGS we know the importance of a sense of belonging and we strive to create the conditions that will support all members of our community to thrive.  We view diversity as one of the key strengths of our School and the Boarding House provides an inclusive, residential environment where each young woman is known and feels valued.

We are proud of the generations of young women who have left the Boarding House having made a significant contribution to the School and who, in the company of lifelong friends, have been ready to step up, and into, the next stage of their lives.

The Role
Canberra Girls Grammar School is looking for a passionate and professional Director (Boarding), which has a pivotal role in providing a caring, warm and welcoming environment for our boarding students.

Supported by the Principal and the Executive team, the Director (Boarding) is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the operations and quality of all facets of the Boarding House and its attendant services. Caring for boarding students, the Director (Boarding) ensures a safe and secure living and academic learning environment for students, and leads and delivers pastoral care in line with contemporary residential management practice.

The Director (Boarding) is a key member of the Senior Management Team of the School and we understand living in the Boarding House is not the same as living at home; however, we provide a safe, values-driven and welcoming environment in which our Boarders can learn and grow.  The Director (Boarding) has a responsibility to ensure that staff and students experience a sense of community and that Boarding House staff members are equipped and inspired to know the boarders well, assist them as they navigate any challenges, celebrate their successes, as well as monitor and care for their wellbeing, daily.

It will be an advantage if you can demonstrate:

  • Experience in Boarding or Pastoral role in a secondary or tertiary education setting
  • Appropriate qualifications in teaching, psychology, welfare and or health qualifications
  • Demonstrated willingness to support adolescent girls
  • A team player with strong organisation skills who can also work independently
  • A confident decision maker who is calm under pressure
  • Personable and dynamic with effective written and verbal communication
  • Ability to relate well to young women, staff and parents
  • A warm welcoming and friendly disposition

As Boarding House positions involve responsibility for the care of female boarders between the ages of 12 and 18, we are seeking female applicants only.

Applicants will be required to provide a current Working With Vulnerable People check prior to commencing employment.
