Radford College is seeking a College Historian to join our Communications Team, to assist with the promotion and preservation of college history.

College Historian | Permanent part-time | 22 hours per week

The opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Communications team for a College Historian role providing curatorial expertise to contribute to the presentation and delivery of Radford College historical content for publications, presentations, social media platforms and events. This position plays an important role in preserving our College heritage and raising awareness of its importance.

This is a part time role working approximately 22 hours per week commencing in April 2023. 


About the role

Displaying a high degree of initiative and having a proactive attitude, the College Historian undertakes a crucial role in project management, communication, and organisational aspects of curating, promoting and sharing significant milestones and historical events in Radford’s history. The role requires strong research and presentation skills and the ability to work with various stakeholders across the College and external organisations to present engaging content for students and the wider Radford community.

About you

The successful candidate will have had experience working in an office environment and using the MS Office suite and social media platforms extensively.  Experience curating displays, organising events and presenting historical information to a diverse audience is required. They will be a confident self-starter who enjoys building relationships with multiple stakeholders both inside and outside of the College, possesses excellent communication skills, has a strong customer-service focus, and can be relied upon to work autonomously.


Candidates must:

  • Be technically competent and confident (intermediate to high proficiency) in the MSOffice suite, with the willingness to learn school-based systems (Library Management System, Archiving, NEXUS etc.)
  • Exhibit well developed research skills
  • Demonstrate sound project management skills
  • Assist with cataloguing, maintaining and disposing of relevant College archival information and artefacts
  • Assist with maintenance of Radford’s Public Website, Nexus, and the Bulletin with relevant College history information
  • Demonstrate a passion for collaborative working as a member of a high-functioning team, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Be energetic, enthusiastic and demonstrate a willingness to grow through the sharing of best practice and professional experience
  • Possess excellent communications skills both written and verbal, as well as excellent time management skills
  • Commit to the safeguarding and promotion of student welfare
  • Be reliable and punctual

Qualifications

  • Experience in the heritage/historical or community engagement role
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Website content management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe programs, graphics and image programs
  • Event and project management experience.
